Current research project

Currently we are conducting survey research within the international research project “Opportunity-based approach to innovation management in small business”. This project is financed by the National Science Centre (Poland), conducted by a consortium of universities from Poland and the Czech Republic and covers 6 European countries: the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Poland.

The aim of this survey is the empirical verification of theoretical (research) model of “opportunity based approach to innovation management in small business” and verification of 8 research hypotheses (see below)

Research hypotheses:

  • H1: The level of entrepreneurial orientation is significantly related to the development of opportunity-based approach to innovation management in small business
  • H2: Firm’s dynamic capabilities significantly and positively determine the development of opportunity-based approach to innovation management in small business
  • H3: Entrepreneurial competencies of the owner-manager significantly and positively determine the development of an opportunity-based approach to innovation management in small business
  • H4: Variability of the business environment significantly and positively determines the development of an opportunity-based approach to innovation management in small business
  • H5: Complexity of the business environment significantly and positively determines the development of an opportunity-based approach to innovation management in small business
  • H6: Opportunity-based approach to innovation management has a significant and positive impact on the level of novelty/originality of innovations implemented in small business
  • H7: An opportunity-based approach to innovation management has a significant and positive impact on benefits from implemented innovations in small business
  • H8: Opportunity-based approach to innovation management has a significant and negative impact on barriers to innovation management in small business

To test if our model works in business practice we collect data from enterprises to check if there are particular statistical relationships between specific model elements.

Our results will be published in a book (scientific monograph – in Polish) and scientific articles (in English). Results will be published in aggregated form only, without names and data of specific companies. We also collect only general data, without any sensitive data. These results will be important for students for the development of business competences in entrepreneurship and innovation management. Results will be also useful for owners and managers of small enterprises. We hope, they will be also inspiring other researchers to conduct further research in the area of entrepreneurship and innovation management. All publications will be available for readers in open source licenses.

Participation in the project consists in filling in the survey questionnaire available on the website https://opportunity.questionpro.com/
The questionnaire should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

As we receive many questions about the project from entrepreneurs and managers we send answers to the most important ones:
  • You do not have to be an innovative company to take part in the survey. The survey is addressed to all micro, small and medium enterprises, regardless of their size, legal form, level of innovativeness, scope of activity or market range.
  • The project is purely scientific, participation in the research is completely free and secure. The survey questions concern general opinions about your company only and do not include any sensitive/detailed data (e.g. financial, market or commercial data).
  • The project is also fully non-commercial. It does not involve promotion of any products/services, any product-placement activities or any other marketing activities. We are also not focused on collecting, processing or sharing any personal data.

As a thank you for taking part in the survey, we offer you the following promotional & scientific benefits:

  • Awarding the company the title of “Market Opportunity Leader” confirmed by a professional certificate
  • Placing information about your company (including a brief description of your business) on the project website: www.opportunity.bizresearch.pl
  • Submission of publications prepared on the basis of research results (after project completion).

More information about the research and past participants can be found on the project website: www.opportunity.bizresearch.pl
